Oleta Miller

Oleta Miller, the daughter of the late Homer P. and Kate Drewry Mathis, was born in Tippah County, Miss., on May 29, 1912, and died at the Green Haven Care Center in Springfield on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at the age of 90. She had lived in Dexter from 1939 until about seven years ago when she moved to be near her son, George M. Miller. She was a registered nurse and served as the school nurse in the Dexter public schools for many years. She was a graduate of Chalybeste, Miss. High School and received her R.N. degree from the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, the 8th District Nursing Association, the Dexter Civic and Study Club, Dexter Hospital Auxiliary and the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Education Society. She joined the First Baptist Church in Dexter March 17, 1940, and remained a faithful member until her death. She was an active member of the Dexter community since moving here in 1939. She will be remembered as a kind, good-hearted neighbor and friend and as a loving, caring mother and grandmother. On June 9, 1939, she was married to George W. Miller in Memphis, Tenn. and to this union one son was born. Her husband preceded her in death on July 29, 1976. Surviving are one son, George Mathis Miller of Springfield; four grandchildren, Matt, Jason, Katie and Danny Miller; one sister, Dell Brinkley of Athens, Ala. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time of 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Wayne Dismuke of Dexter officiating at the funeral. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery. PAID
