Rev. Andrew L. Asbell, son James Christopher and Mary Melinda (Wilson) Asbell, was born June 8, 1905, in Bloomfield and died Monday. Nov. 4, 2002, at Christian Northeast Hospital in Jennings at the age of 97. Mr. Asbell was an ordained Baptist Minister and a faithful member of the Mount Zion General Baptist Church in Ferguson. On March 28, 1925, he was united in marriage to Lelia Katherine Leonard, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 1992. Other survivors include one daughter, Sylvia M. Fields of Sorrento, Ill.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Leslie J. Asbell and James A. Asbell; one grandson; one great-grandson; and six siblings, Willie Asbell, Chester Asbell, Eadie Asbell, Pearl Asbell, Iva Bowlin and Elvia Bradham. Visitation was held from Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Highway 30, Cedar Hill. Interment followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Mount Zion General Baptist Church.
