Lorna Belle Ray

Lorna Belle Ray, daughter of the late Matthew Sinclair and Chloe Jane Collins Sinclair, was born on Aug. 1, 1909, in Petersburg, Ill., and died in the St. Peters Manor Nursing Home at St. Peters on Nov. 5, 2002, at the age of 93. Mrs. Ray was a high school graduate and had been valedictorian of her class, was a member of the Sugar Tree General Baptist Church of rural Bernie, had also attended the Missionary Alliance Church of Bernie, was a seamstress at the garment factory in Malden for 20 years until her retirement, and was a former resident of Bernie. She was united in marriage to Dolen Brooks Ray in March, 1935, at Petersburg, Ill. Mr. Ray preceded her in death in March, 1971. Survivors include one son, John Ray of O'Fallon; two daughters, Elsie Keller of Malden and Ethyle Enderle of Fisk; one brother, Dale Sinclair of Petersburg, Ill.; one sister, Louise Janet of Petersburg, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Dolen Ray, Jr. and Charles Ray Sinclair; four daughters, Eunice Radamacher, Donna Mattingly, Chloe Ray in infancy and Versal Ray in childhood; two brothers, John Sinclair and Raymond Sinclair; three sisters, Thelma Kren, Laura Walsh, and Emmaline Morris. Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Scott Keller officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
