John Delmar "Pete" Adams, son of the late Charlie B. Adams and Sadie Ray Whitehead Adams, was born on April 8, 1920, at Powe and died in the St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis on Nov. 3, 2002, at the age of 82. Mr. Adams was a retired heavy equipment operator for Harris Ready Mix in Dexter, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II, a member of the Kenny Sisler Disabled American Veterans Chapter #47, a member of the Dexter Elks Lodge #2439 and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Verttle Lee Silliman on May 19, 1947, at Piggott, Ark., and Mrs. Adams survives of the home near Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Delmar Gene Adams and wife Audrey of Fairdealing and David Keith Adams and wife Marsha of Dexter; two brothers, Charles B. Adams and Prentis Adams, both of Dexter; four sisters, Louise Goins of Pontiac, Mich. Vivian Ellsworth of Powe, Mavis Hall of Hillsboro, and Doris Britt of Clarkston, Mich.; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Adams and two brothers. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter. PAID
