Jack R. Murphy of Carlyle, Ill., son of Homer and Cecil (Elledge) Murphy, was born in Advance on Feb. 20, 1935 and died on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at his residence. On Nov. 8, 1962, he married Bertha M. Taylor in Carlyle, and she survives of the home. Mr. Murphy is also survived by two daughters, Angela Shepard and Tina Aarns, both of Carlyle; two sisters, Sherrie Patterson and husband Ron and Sharon Abbott, all of Dexter; five grandchildren, Rydge Shepard, Reis Shepard, Rex Shepard, Tiffany Aarns and Taylor Aarns. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milford and Randy Murphy; and two sisters, Margaret Wegner and Marjorie Abner. Mr. Murphy had lived in the Carlyle area since 1971. He was a pipeline welder and worked in many different areas of the country. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Pipeliners Local #798 at Tulsa, Okla. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking on the grill and being with his family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle, Ill., and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow in Carlyle Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice in Centralia, Ill., and will be received at the Funeral Home. PAID
