Levi Foster Swinger, Jr., son of Levi Foster Swinger, Sr. and Myrtle Rains Swinger, was born on Jan. 8, 1924, in Blytheville, Ark., and died on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at his residence in Milledgville, Ga., at the age of 78. Mr. Swinger was a member of the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. In September of 1946, he married Harriet Lillian Carr. He farmed in Missouri until 1955 when he moved his family to Smyrna, Ga., to work at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. In 1959 he moved to Milledgville and was employed at Central State Hospital retiring in 1984. Mr. Swinger was a Methodist and in the 1960's was a founding member of CONCERN, an inter-racial action group. Survivors include his wife, Harriet L Swinger of Milledgville; his children, Sandra S. Williams of Augusta, Ga., Gary E. Swinger of Milledgville, Ga., Mortin F. Swinger of Augusta, Maine; and four grandchildren. Additional survivors include John E. Williams, III, of Augusta, Maine; Leigh A. Swinger, of Milledgville, Ga.; Brian Kaufman, of Augusta, Maine. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at The Chapel of All Faiths Church, Central State Hospital in Milledgville with Rev. Ed Nelson and Rev. Harold Lawrence officiating. Memorials may be made to the River of Life Missions, c/o First Methodist Church, 300 West Hancock Street, Milledgville, Ga. 31061. Bridges Funeral Home in Gray has charge of all arrangements. PAID
