Homer Abernathy, son of the late Andrew Jackson Abernathy and Mary Nolan Abernathy, was born on Nov. 4, 1907, at Athens, Ala., and died on Oct. 16, 2002, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 94. Mr. Abernathy was the former owner of Abernathy Welding in Dexter, of the Baptist faith, and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Fern McClain on Oct. 11, 1933, at Newark, Ark., and she survives of the home in Dexter. Other survivors include two sons, Gene Abernathy of Mt. Home, Ark., and Bob Abernathy of Dexter; one sister, Audrey Pitts of Kennett; and two grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Rev. Wayne Dismuke officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
