Walter H. Johnson, the son of the late Harry Marshall and Lorene Stevens Johnson, was born in Flint, Mich., on July 12, 1929, and died at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Sept. 20, 2002, at the age of 73. Mr. Johnson lived in the Dexter area all his life. He was a retired city mail carrier. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter where he served in many capacities including deacon. He was involved as a volunteer with the Boy Scout program for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion. On Feb. 24, 1951, he was married to Glenda Milton at Dexter. Surviving are his wife Glenda Johnson of Dexter; two sons, David Andrew Johnson of Dexter and Daniel Alan Johnson of Jackson; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Marlene Winstead of Dexter and Joyce Brents of Essex. He was preceded in death by one brother Jerry Johnson and one sister, Joy Duckworth. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday , Sept. 21, 2002, at the First Baptist Church on Saturday with Rev. Don Kennedy and Rev. Mike Watkins, both of Dexter, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
