William Shirrell

William ?Bill? Shirrell, 71, of Zalma was born Aug. 21, 1931, at Zalma, the son of the late Phynnie and Dovie Hedrick Shirrell and died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at his home. Mr. Shirrell was a retired sawmill worker. He was of the Baptist faith. He was also a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. On Jan. 28, 1955, he and Carolyn Thurston were united in marriage at Hernando, Miss., and she survives of the home. Other survivors include one son, Billy Shirrell of Zalma; one daughter, Lorita Ann Goolsby of Zalma; two sisters, Judy Powell of High Ridge and Lita Thornburg of Silva; and two grandchildren. Three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death. Visitation was held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance with Rev. Earl Elfrink officiating. Interment followed in Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy.
