Elmer ?Gene? Medcalf, son of the late Elmer Medcalf and Lura Mae Bishoff Medcalf, was born on Jan. 23, 1918, at Bloomfield and died in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital at St. Louis on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at the age of 84. Mr. Medcalf was affiliated with the First United Methodist church in Dexter, was the owner of the Singer sewing machine store in Dexter for many years, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to the former Marie L. Kirkpatrick on June 30, 1941, at Kirkwood and to this union three children were born. They were married for 61 years and Mrs. Medcalf survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Bob Medcalf of Southhaven, Miss.; two daughters, Dixie Hicks of Kansas City, Mo., and Lana Clark of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Benny Medcalf of Park Hills; one sister, Jewell Langdon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home, Dexter. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Larry Hinman and Rev. Roger Wooten officiating. Interment followed in the Essex Cemetery.
