Dayton Whitehead, son of the late William Whitehead and Suda Crump Whitehead, was born on July 17, 1920, at Bernie and died in the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center at Poplar Bluff on Aug. 22, 2002, at the age of 82. Mr. Whitehead was a veteran of World War II serving in the army, a carpenter, a resident of Bernie, and of the Baptist faith. He was united in marriage to Lura Imogene Boyd on May 19, 1947, at Piggott, Ark. She preceded her husband in death on May 15, 2001. Survivors include one son, Bobby Whitehead of Bernie; two daughters, Sharon Stevens and Derretta Patrick, both of Bernie; one brother, Vernis Whitehead of Metamora, Mich.; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Stevens of Bernie and Casey Williams of Dexter; three great-grandchildren, Kristin Stevens and Ashlyn Stevens, both of Bernie, and Bailee Williams of Dexter. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie starting at 1:00 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Pastor Dale Hartle officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery, Rural Route Dexter. PAID
