Annie Scowden

Annie R. Scowden, 98, of Advance, was born Jan. 13, 1904, at Kansas, Ill., the daughter of the late William H. and Josephine Glovier Simmers, and died Aug. 10, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Scowden was a homemaker and a member of Bethel General Baptist Church in Advance. In 1926 she was married to Evert Harris, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1931. She then married Oren Scowden in 1935 at Greenbrier, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1953. Survivors include four sons, Lloyd Harris of Puxico, Dwane Scowden of Carthage, Dwight Scowden of Sturdivant, and Bob Scowden of Whitewater; four daughters, Margaret White, Shirley McCollough, Rachel Carlton and Barbara Shell, all of Advance; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Scowden and Floyd Harris; two grandchildren, six sisters and four brothers. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Bro. Dale Wiseman and Rev. Keith Price officiating. Interment was held at Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy.
