Leon Smothers

Leon Smothers, son of the late Marian Johns Smothers and Grettia Parker Smothers was born on March 19, 1913 at Fisk and died in his residence near Dexter on Aug. 1, 2002 at the age of 89. Mr. Smothers was a former ranch hand, a maintenance worker at the county court house in Baker City, Or., a former resident of Baker City, currently residing in Dexter. He was united in marriage to Clydia Ego on Aug. 2, 1953 in Oregon. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1998. Survivors include two brothers, Edward ?Bus? Smothers, of Dexter and Bill Smothers of Florissant; two sisters, Lucille Quinn, of Aurora and Helen ?Tudy? Smothers of Florissant; by several nieces and nephews. Aside from his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elvin Smothers; by three sisters, Madge Smothers, Mary Ruth Christ and Adele Crabtree. Friends may call at the Gray?s West and Company Pioneer Chapel in Baker City, Or., Monday, August 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Graveside services will then be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday at the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Baker City, Or., with Pastor Roger Scovil officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
