Esther Adkins

Esther Jewell Adkins, the daughter of the late George Thomas and Pearl Anna Gentles McGuirt, was born in Curtis, Ark., on May 12, 1922, and died at her residence in Morehouse, Mo., on July 28, 2002, at the age of 80 years. Mrs. Adkins had resided in Arkansas until 1939 and has lived in the Essex and Morehouse area since that time. She attended the Baptist church. On Nov. 20, 1942, she was married to Joseph Elvin Adkins in Gray Ridge. Surviving are her husband Joseph Elvin Adkins; one son, Elvin Dennis Adkins of Portageville; one daughter, Linda Jo Copeland of Lilbourn; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. Visitation was held from 5 - 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, July 30, 2002, at the Big Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Lewis of Lilbourn officiating. Interment was held in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Morehouse in charge of arrangements.
