Wesley Proffer

Wesley O. Proffer, the son of the late Jason E. and Anna Mae Slinkard Proffer, was born in Crump, Mo., onNov. 22, 1915, and died at his home in Puxico on Friday, July 19, 2002, at the age of 86. Mr. Proffer was a retired vocational agriculture teacher and had taught at several Southeast Missouri schools. He had lived in Puxico for the past 20 years. He served in the Army during World War II and was a 32nd degree Mason in the Whitewater Masonic Lodge where he was a 50-year member. On March 24, 1945, he married the former Virginia Hutson and she preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2000. Surviving are a sister, Agnes Bollinger of Jackson and one nephew, Leslie Bollinger of Jackson. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Nile Proffer. Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 21, in the funeral home chapel with Elder Jerry Park of Puxico officiating. Burial will follow in the Puxico Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
