Wendell W. Mills

Wendell Mills, son of the late Marion Mills and Florence Cross Mills, was born on Aug. 5, 1921 in rural Bernie and died at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell on July 12, 2002 at the age of 80. Mr. Mills attended the Bethany General Baptist Church, was a former social worker for the State Department of Mental Health in Missouri, and was a W.W.II Navy veteran. He was first united in marriage to Betty Jo Brown on March 13, 1945. She preceded him in death on June 27, 1954. He then married Lura Cook on Aug. 18, 1955 at rural Broseley. Mrs. Mills survives at the home in Bernie. Other survivors include one son, Glen Mills, of Bernie; one sister, Chloe Book, of Malden; by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Aside from his parents, Mr. Mills was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Harold Mills, and by two sisters, Ollie Petty and Etoil Howe. The visitation was held from 6-8 p.m., Sunday July 14, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, July 15, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Dawsey Lee Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Bethany Cemetery at rural Campbell.
