Arthur L. Bernard, son of the late Frank C. and Anna Guthrie Bernard, was born on May 16, 1912, in St. Charles County, Mo., and died in the Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter on Thursday, July 4, 2002, at the age of 90. Mr. Bernard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter, a former conservation agent in Stoddard and Scott counties, the former mayor of Benton, Mo., and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Ruth Griffin on March 9, 1934, in St. Charles, Mo. She preceded him in death on Oct. 2, 2000. Survivors include one son, Wesley Bernard of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Anna Mae Young of St. Charles, Shirley Alexander of Dexter and Ardith Yeakey of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Arthur Lenny Bernard; two brothers, Artie Bernard and Charlie Bernard; and one great-grandson, Robby Maddox. Graveside services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002 at the Dexter Cemetery with Revs. Buzz Brown and Marshall Link officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stoddard County Children?s Home.
