Arville Nicks

NEWTON, Texas - Arville D. ?A.D.? Nicks, 74, of Jasper, Texas, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at the St. Elizabeth Dubois Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Mr. Nicks was born Sept. 15, 1927. He was raised in East Texas and Louisiana and he graduated from Newton High School in Newton, Texas. He is a graduate of Pt. Arthur Business College and retired from the Gulf Oil Company in 1984, after 36 1/2 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Rainbow Lodge 735 in Newton and a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 224 in 1993. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners of Houston. He was a past member of the First Baptist Church in Newton and a current member of the Grace Bible Church in Newton. On Nov. 9, 1979, he married Rose Anna Powell. Rose Anna Powell is a cousin to Carl Rice of Dexter. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Sandra Kelley of Tylorsville, N.C. and Robin Brockhoeft of Pt. Neches, Texas; one son, Craig Nicks of Buna, Texas; one stepdaughter, Dianne Fox of Oxly; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Friday at the Smith Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Saturday at the home of Floyd and Ruth Rice in Poplar Bluff. A graveside funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
