Velma Sams

Velma Sams, daughter of the late George Lochridge and Lala Gardner Lochridge, was born on March 26, 1907 at Columbus, Ky. and departed this life in the Lutheran Home at Cape Girardeau on May 23, 2002, at the age of 95. Mrs. Sams was of the Methodist faith, a former employee of A & P Tea Company, a former employee of the Hickory House Restaurant in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Clois W. Sams on March 17, 1924 at Charleston. Mr. Sams preceded her in death on April 12, 1963. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Jane Sams of Fenton, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Herman Diebold of Kelso, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Hazel Lochridge of Charleston, Mo.; three grandchildren, Donna and Dub Brown of Greenback, Tenn., Vicki and Ed Corrick of Cullman, Ala., Ronnie Sams of Jackson, Mo.; five great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and seven step great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Claude Lochridge, Robert Lochridge, Gardner Lochridge and Bill Lochridge; and by three sisters, Virgie Hensley, Maude Jones and Mary Louise Lochridge. Visitation was held Saturday, May 25, 2002 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were then conducted Sunday, May 26, 2002 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Lovins officiating. Interment followed in the Burkley Cemetery at Burkley, Ky. with Rev. Don Carver conducting the graveside service. PAID
