Dorothy M. Holifield, daughter of the late John E. Harris and Letha McPheeters Holifield, was born on Oct. 5, 1916 at rural Bloomfield and died in the Potosi Manor Nursing Center in Potosi on May 15, 2002, at the age of 85. Mrs. Holifield was a member of the Irondale United Methodist Church in Irondale, Mo. and was a former member of the Sadler Chapel Methodist Church in Dexter. She had been a teacher in the Bloomfield School District and other school systems in Stoddard County, a 50 year member of Bloomfield Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, a former A.R.C. board member, a former board member of the West Antioch Cemetery Association, a former member of the Stoddard County Historical Society and had received the Meritorious Service Award from the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association, and was a former resident of Bloomfield currently residing in Potosi. On April 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to E.B. Holifield at Bloomfield. Mr. Holifield preceded her in death on July 17, 1987. Survivors include two sons, John Robert Holifield of Irondale and James Bradford Holifield of Davenport, Iowa; and two grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Thursday, May 16. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, May 17 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Linda Zych officiating. Interment will follow at the West Antioch Cemetery near Bloomfield with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter in charge of arrangements.
