Roy L. Williams

Roy Lee Williams, the son of the late Tom and Cordelia Shoemate Williams, was born in Puxico on April 30, 1922 and died at his home in Springfield, Mo. on May 11, 2002, at the age of 80. Mr. Williams had lived in Puxico and St. Louis before moving to Springfield 17 years ago. He was a retired dispatcher with a motor trucking company, was a veteran of the United States Navy and attended the Central Assembly of God Church in Springfield. On Feb. 26, 1945 he was united in marriage to Wyvonne Thomas in Corning, Ark. and she preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1985. Surviving are two sons, John Williams of Springfield and David Williams of Mt. Olive, Ill.; two daughters, Gloria Williams and Mary Hulsey, both of Springfield; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Williams of St. Louis; and one sister, Nathalee Colliton of Coconut Creek, Fla. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, David Williams. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 9:30 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will then be conducted at 10:30 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Lance of Scott City officiating. Interment will follow at the Baker Cemetery in Marble Hill with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
