Harold B. Swinger of Marshall, Mo., the son of the late Roy and Pearl Swinger, was born Aug. 23, 1915 in Essex and died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo. after a short illness, at the age of 86. Mr. Swinger graduated from Dexter High School and attended Missouri University. He taught elementary school and had lived in and around Marshall for nearly 60 years, where he was very involved in many community activities and was an active member of the First Christian Church in Marshall. Harold served in World War II. On Nov. 6, 1937 he was united in marriage to Lucy Sue Jenkins of Longwood, Mo. and she preceded in him in death on Nov. 19, 2000. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Elza, Welza and Galen Swinger. Survivors include two sons, Ben Swinger of Dayton, Ohio and Doug Swinger of Marshall; two brothers, Glenn Swinger of Rifton, N.Y. and Mel Swinger of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall from 6 - 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 5. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 6 at the First Christian Church in Marshall. Interment will follow in Ridge Park Cemetery with Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home of Marshall in charge of arrangements.
