Denise Scates, daughter of Sindy Metcalf Cochran of Puxico and the late Frederick Lincoln Cochran, was born on Dec. 7, 1952 at Poplar Bluff and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girardeau on May 1, 2002, at the age of 49. Denise was a floral designer, a member of Puxico Ladies Auxiliary #7822 and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Gary Scates on June 26, 1971 at Dudley and to this union two children were born. Mr. Scates survives of the home in Dexter. Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Dusty Scates of Dexter; by one daughter, Angi Scates of St. Louis; by one brother, Dennis Cochran of Poplar Bluff; by one sister, Debra Jones of Rossville, Ga.; and by her mother-in-law, Edna Scates of Poplar Bluff. She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Lincoln Scates on Aug. 2, 1994; and by one sister, Donna Renee Cochran on May 7, 1963. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Thursday, May 2. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 3 with Rev. Kenneth Lambert officiating. Interment will follow with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
