Willis Burkhart

Willis M. Burkhart, the son of the late Milton and Mazy Goodwin Burkhart, was born in Edina, Mo., on May 29, 1934, and died at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the age of 67. Mr. Burkhart had lived most of his life in Ute, Iowa, and moved to Dexter in June of 2001. A retired truck driver, he had served in the U.S. Marines and was a member of the American Legion. On June 5, 2001, he married Ruby Sample in Sioux City, S.D. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Burkhart of Dexter; one stepson, Tom Sample of Poplar Bluff; one stepdaughter, Shirley Newman of Dexter; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Cletus J. Burkhart of Springfield; and one sister, Eva Fountain of Eldon. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home, Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel, Dexter, with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery. The Veteran's Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff will conduct Military Rites. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
