Garfield Montgomery, son of the late John Silas Montgomery and Parilee King Montgomery, was born on Sept. 2, 1920 at Bernie and died in the Beverly Health & Rehabilitation Center in Dexter on March 30, 2002, a the age of 81. Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ, a farmer, a World War II Veteran and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Francis "Pete" Reed Montgomery on Feb. 15, 1941 in Clarkton. Mrs. Montgomery preceded him in death on April 9, 2000. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Montgomery; and by one sister, Lola Young. Survivors include three sons, Phillip Montgomery, David Montgomery and Barry Montgomery, all from Dexter; by one daughter, Judy Nea of Dexter; by seven brothers, Hollas Montgomery, Breman Montgomery and Sam Montgomery, all from Dexter, Leon Montgomery of Oxnard, Calif., Bob Montgomery of Kennett, Bill Montgomery of Paducah, Ky. and Paul Montgomery of North Carolina; by one sister, JoAnn Golden of Malden; by nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8, Monday, April 1. Funeral services were conducted today, Tuesday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Grissom officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis in charge of arrangement.
