Beverly Marvel

Beverly Greer Marvel, daughter of the late Grover W. and Willa Hackney Greer, was born June 23, 1916 in Poplar Bluff and died at her son's residence in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, May 5, 2003 at the age of 86. Mrs. Marvel participated in numerous clubs, political activities and church boards. She was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dexter before moving to San Antonio, Texas. In October 1934, she was married to Mitchell A. Marvel and he preceded her in death in 1989. Survivors include one son, William Lee Marvel of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, LaVita Orand of Tulsa, Okla. and Willa Rae Hollingshead of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Greer Marvel and James Frank Marvel; and one granddaughter, Beverly Ellen Marvel. Visitation will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, May 9, 2003 at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dexter.
