Bessie A. Parris, the daughter of the late William Christopher and Annie Elizabeth Hibbs Henson, was born in Lepanto, Ark., on June 7, 1922, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at the age of 80. Mrs. Parris had lived in Dexter most of her life and was retired from the Brown Shoe Company in Bernie. She was a member of the Southwest Church of the Nazarene in Dexter. On Oct. 15, 1938, she was married to Paul Elmer Parris in Caruthersville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1991. Surviving are two sons, Noah "Bill" Parris of Dexter and David E. Parris of St. Louis; six daughters, Tressie Pat Ledford of Cleveland, Tenn., Carol S. Swallows of Dexter, Anita A. Lee of Advance, Mary E. Carter of Poplar Bluff, Paulette Fyffe of Hosington, Kan., Kathy D. Bathan of Carbondale, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Roger D. Parris on Sept. 23, 1997. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Pastor Avis Murray of Dexter and the Rev. Scott Ledford of Cleveland, Tenn., officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
