Steve Whitsel, the son of Wanda Jean Gunter Trout and the late Marion Maurice Whitsel, was born in Sikeston on June 9, 1952, and died at the Three Rivers Health Care South in Poplar Bluff on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the age of 50. Mr. Whitsel was a resident of Dexter. He graduated from Puxico High School and served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years. Surviving are his mother, Wanda Trout of Puxico; two sons, Stephen Dale Whitsel, II of Marion, Ill., and Michael Christopher Whitsel of New Baden, Ill.; one daughter, Joyce Rena Shen of Trenton, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry Whitsel of Puxico and Kent Whitsel of Peyton, Colo. Visitation was held after 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the Watkins & sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Jerry Metcalf of Puxico officiating. Interment followed in the Sadler's Chapel Cemetery near Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-1905.
