Leora E. Oliver, the daughter of the late Ruben Randolph and Sarah Smith Brewington, was born in Canalou on Feb. 26, 1917 and died at the Beverly Health & Rehab Center in Bloomfield on Feb. 26, 2002, at the age of 85. Mrs. Oliver had lived in the Canalou and Essex Communities most all of her life. She attended the Mt. Zion-Walker General Baptist Church near Bloomfield. On August 26, 1933, she was united in marriage to Herbert Cecil Oliver in New Madrid. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1985. Surviving are one daughter, Cloetta 'Corky' Razer of Essex; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Hunnicut of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one brother, Everett Brewington of Marquand. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter JoAnn Bell; by one son, Johnnie Lee Oliver; and by one sister, Fern Johnson. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 1 at 2 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob Holland and Rev. Bill Pennington, both of Bloomfield, officiating. Interment will follow in the Matthews Cemetery in Matthews with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
