Rev. Earl Hume

Rev. Earl Hume, the son of the late Charlie and Nancy Jane Fortner Hume, was born in Dexter on July, 20, 1910 and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Feb. 22, 2002, at the age of 91. Mr. Hume was a resident of Mich. for 30 years before moving to Dexter in 1972. He was a member of the 2nd General Baptist Church in Dexter and had served as Pastor for several areas churches and had built a church in Michigan. On Oct. 15, 1932 he was united in marriage to Rita Mary Oliver. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1973. On Sept. 28, 1973 he was married to Madeline Smith and she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Seay of Thomasville, N.C., Andrea Boyd of Higdon, Ark., and Patsy Whitehouse of Mich.; by two step-daughters, Violet Higgs and Nancy Wade, both of Dexter; by one brother, Charles Hume of Dexter; by one sister, Ivy Lyles of Kalamozoo, Mich.; by two grandsons; by two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, three brothers, four sisters, and one grandchild. Visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
