Lawrence V. Thornton, son of the late Jonas Thornton and Idell Lewis Thornton, was born on June 20, 1937 at Oran and died in the Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center at Kennett on Feb. 18, 2002, at the age of 64. Mr. Thornton attended the Mount Calvary Church in Parma, was a retired farmer and a resident of Malden. Survivors include six daughters, Barbara Johnson, Cynthia Tillman, and Leslie Johnson, all of Parma, Loretta Thornton of Lilbourn, April Thornton and Brandy Thornton, both of Sikeston; two brothers, Albert Thornton of Sikeston and Charles Thornton of Poplar Bluff; four sisters, Lillie Bell Patton and Louise Davis, both of Portageville, Marie Smith of Poplar Bluff, and Areatha Miller of Parma; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Regina Williams, three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 12 - 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Pastor Floyd Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery in rural Clarkton with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.
