Magnolia Rutherford, formerly of Catron, the daughter of the late Jessie B. and Mary A. Slaton Smith, was born Jan. 12, 1910 at Town Creek, Ala. and died Feb. 6, 2002 at the Monticello House in Jackson, at the age of 92. She was united in marriage to Herbert J. Rutherford on Dec. 23, 1929 and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1988. Mrs. Rutherford enjoyed gardening, was a member of North-Side Baptist Church in Bernie. She had lived at Catron for 10 years, and prior to that, was a resident of Drew, Miss. for many years and, also a former resident of Blytheville, Ark. Survivors include two sons, Aubrey Rutherford of Millersville and Jess Rutherford of Oak Ridge; one daughter, Betty Stockton of Catron; one brother, Louis "L.L." Smith of Leighton, Ala.; one sister, Stella Posey of Leighton, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, six brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9 between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia, Ala. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. with Rev. Howard Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at the Glendale Cemetery at Leighton, Ala. with Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia in charge of arrangements.
