Lois E. Burton

Lois Ella Burton, the daughter of the late William Patrick and Hallie Leeanna Hamm Flatt, was born in Sweetlips, Tenn. on Aug. 11, 1924 and died at the home of her daughter in Henderson, Tenn. on Jan. 30, 2002, at the age of 77. Mrs. Burton had lived in the Sikeston and Morehouse areas for many years, and returned to Henderson four years ago. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was first married to L.V. Hopper who preceded her in death on July 6, 1972. On July 5, 1973 she was united in marriage to Jack Burton and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1993. Surviving are six sons, Andy Hopper of Adamsville, Tenn., William Hopper of Rockford, Ill., James Hopper of Morehouse, Randy Hopper and Mike Burton, both of Sikeston, and Phillip Flatt of Milan, Tenn.; four daughters, Doris Hevener of Morris Chapel, Tenn., Joyce Sissom of Sweetlips, Tenn., Barbara Flanigan of Morehouse, and Carolyn Hopper of Rockford, Ill.; 35 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters, and four brothers. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Morehouse with Rev. John Givens of Sikeston officiating. Interment will follow at the New Morley Cemetery in Morley with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Morehouse in charge of arrangements.
