Della Hayes, the daughter of the late W.S. and Sarah Johnson Hill, was born in McLeansboro, Ill. on Dec. 9, 1910 and died at the Beverly Health & Rehab Center in Poplar Bluff on Jan. 28, 2002, at the age of 91. Mrs. Hayes lived near Fisk and had been a resident of Butler County all her life. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Broseley. On Dec. 2, 1925, she was united in marriage to Charley Jacob Hayes. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1990. Surviving are one son, Harrison Hayes of Irondale, Mo.; two daughters, June Marler of Broseley, Berniece Schultz of St. Louis; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnson Hill of Qulin; and one sister, Gennettie Brown of Fisk. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 6 - 8 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Mole Hill Cemetery near Broseley with Rev. Gerald Berger of Qulin officiating. Interment will follow with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
