Laura "Freda" Kirkpatrick of Columbia, formerly of Advance, the daughter of the late Joseph Bradford and Laura White Kelley, was born Sept. 30, 1919 at Octa, Mo. and died Jan. 4, 2002 at Columbia Manor Nursing Home in Columbia at the age of 82. She was united in marriage to Sterling O. Kirkpatrick on June 24, 1945 at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1997. Mr. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick were owner/operators of Gambles Store in Advance for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Advance. She is survived by two sons, Bob Kirkpatrick of Bowling Green, Mo. and Daryl Kirkpatrick of Columbia; by two brothers, Carson Kelley of Delta and Carl E. Kelley of Kisse Mills, Mo.; by 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Visitation was held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Sunday, Jan. 6 from 4:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Advance on Monday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Clinton Woodfin officiating. Interment followed at the Grassy Cemetery with Morgan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Advance First Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
