James Donald Watkins of Dexter, the son of the late Homer and Emma Berry Watkins, was born Sept. 9, 1932 in Sturdivant and died on Dec. 17, 2001 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston at the age of 69. He was a retired truck driver, mechanic and carpenter. Survivors include three sons, Randy Watkins of Bonne Terre, Gary Watkins of Chaffee and Jimmy Watkins of Linwood, Wa.; two step-sons, Larry Dugger of Zalma and Everett Dugger of the state of Texas; two daughters, Gala Deckard of Brownwood and Kathy Barrett of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Ronald Watkins of Prett, Kan.; three sisters, Evelyn Colbert, Elva Jackson and Melvina Martin, all of Advance; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Tolbert officiating. Internment will follow in the Cato Cemetery near Arab with Morgan Funeral Home in Advance in charge of all arrangements.
