Paul Ellis, the son of the late William and Pearl Dowdy Ellis, was born in Risco on Aug. 25, 1927 and died at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Edwardsville, Ill. on Dec. 17, 2001, at the age of 74. Mr. Ellis was a retired pipe layer and had worked for McMullen Excavating for many years. He had lived in Catron, Bernie and Dexter before moving to Granite City, Ill. three years ago. On Oct. 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Louise Bennett in Piggott, Ark., she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Paul Richard Ellis of Granite City, Ill.; by three daughters, Paulette Green and Carol Jane Ellis, both of Granite City, Ill. and Joyce Cagle of Carriere, Miss.; by seven grandchildren; by nine great-grandchildren; by three brothers, Edwin Ellis of Lilbourn, Dale Ellis of Dexter and Billy Joe Ellis of Morehouse; and by two sisters, Margaret Baker of Dexter and Norma Hoskins of Sikeston. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Daisy Breece. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Arvel Edmonds of Bernie officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
