Jerry Shipman

Jerry L. Shipman, the son of the late John and Pearl Smith Shipman, was born in Dexter on Feb. 3, 1920 and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Dec. 12, 2001, at the age of 81. Mr. Shipman had lived all his life in Dexter. He was a retired truck driver and was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter. On Sept. 29, 1940 he was united in marriage to Helen Stoker in Malden, she survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jerry D. Shipman of Charleston, S.C.; by two daughters, Janet F. Putnam of Dexter and Geraldine Comte of St. Louis; by nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Eugene Shipman and James "Jack" Shipman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter officiating. Internment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
