Verna Cruse

Verna Mae Cruse, the daughter of the late Tom and Florence Wills Miller, was born in Rockview, Mo. on March 19, 1912, and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Oct. 28, 2001, at the age of 89. Mrs. Cruse had resided in Essex and Gray Ridge most of her life. She moved to Dexter in 1993 and to Bloomfield one year ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. On July 7, 1927, she was married to Charles A. Cruse in Benton. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1973. Surviving are one son: Norman Cruse of Bloomfield; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Dallas Miller of Cape Girardeau, and J.D. Schatz of Springfield; one sister, Dorothy Burns of Evansville, Ind. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Jerry, Jackie and Millard Cruse. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, Oct. 31, after 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in the Watkins and Sons Chapel with Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
