Almeta Sides

Almeta Sides, the daughter of Marie Dempsy Dowdy and the late Jack Dowdy, was born in Clarksville, Ark. on May 12, 1938 and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Oct. 25, 2001, at the age of 63. Mrs. Sides had resided in Bloomfield the past 5 years and was a homemaker. She was united in marriage to Leon Sides in 1971, he survives of the home. Other survivors include one son, Billy J. Mitchell of Dexter; four daughters, Norma Lawhorn of Ill., Marilyn Maronies of Calif., LeVeta Byrd and Rita Clawson, both of Dexter; her mother, Marie Dowdy of Dexter; two brothers, Richard Dowdy of Dexter and Larry Dowdy of Tenn.; four sisters, Ivy Horn and Lovena Dowdy, both of Bloomfield, Nancy Pullum of Dexter, and Louise Oliver of Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Londa Tarver, Charles Roper, Chris Roper, Michael Lawhorn, Missy Lawhorn, Christina Lawhorn, Ethan Green, Cherish Green, Karen Maronies and Tim Maronies; and four great-grandchildren, Steven Tarver, Zachary Tarver, Mathew Tarver and Dakota Mason. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Josephine Williamson; four brothers, Bill Spence, Edward Dowdy, Jimmy Dowdy and John Dowdy; and one sister, Alice Faye Dowdy. Visitation was held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. Graveside services were held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Essex Cemetery with Rev. Walter Spencer of Campbell officiating. Internment followed in Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements. PAID
