James Barber

James L. Barber, the son of Juanita Peppers Barber and the late Louis H. Barber, was born in Charter Oak, Mo. on Aug. 29, 1948 and died at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on Oct. 8, 2001, at the age of 53. Mr. Barber had been a resident of Gray Ridge most of his life and had lived in Sikeston the past four years. He had served in the United States Army in Vietnam and received a Silver Star. He is survived by one son, James Barber Miller of Conway, Mo.; by one daughter, Jennifer Jo Helms of Sikeston; by his mother, Juanita Barber of Essex; and by two sisters, Carolyn Wasbutsky of Sikeston and Sharon Benthal of Portageville. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will by conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter. Interment and full military honors by the Southeast Missouri Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff will be held in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
