Shirley Jean Messer, daughter of the late Carl and Edith Scutter Curneal, was born at Essex on Aug. 29, 1934 and died at Dexter on Sept. 2, 2001 at the age of 67. Mrs. Messer had spent most of her life in the Bloomfield Community but for the last year had been a resident of Dexter. She was a retired employee of Elder Manufacturing Co. and attended the Assembly of God Church. She was married to Donald Messer, who preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1993. One brother, James Harold also preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Rick Bostic of Bloomfield; three brothers, Delmar Curneal of Troy, Mo., Lindell Curneal of Florissant, and Glenn Curneal of Chaffee; one sister, Wanda Alford of Bloomfield; and one grandson. Visitation was held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield on Tues., Sept. 4, from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Wed., Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Hendrix officiating. Interment followed in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield. Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
