Laddie May Smith, a resident of Dexter, the daughter of the late Walter Neff and Veda Neff Oliver was born on Dec. 15, 1918 at Dexter and died on Aug. 11, 2001 in the Southern Missouri Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 82. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, the former librarian for Dexter Senior High School, retiring in 1981 after serving 31 years in education, a member of the Stoddard County Retired Teachers Assoc., the past matron of the Dexter Chapter of the O.E.S., a member of the Missouri Southern Healthcare Auxiliary and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to LaVelle Smith on June 22, 1946 at Sikeston. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1975. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Hardy Eltzroth of Bloomington, Ind. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman Lee Hardy, Leon Hardy and Howard Hardy; by two sisters, Juanita Hardy Wilson and Frances Hardy Mason. Visitation was held Sun., Aug. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted on Mon., Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Dismuke officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter in charge of arrangements.
