John L. Clodfelter, son of the late Asa Clodfelter and Ada Elizabeth Kelley Clodfelter was born on Feb. 21, 1924 at Hope, Ark. and departed this life in the St. Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on Monday, May 19, 2003 at the age of 79. Mr. Clodfelter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bernie, a farmer, a member of the Bernie Masonic Lodge #573, a veteran of the United States Army World War II and a resident of Bernie. He was united in marriage to Lois L. Day on May 18, 1946 in the state of Alabama. Mrs. Clodfelter survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Karen Hampton of Dexter; two brothers, Ray Clodfelter of Jackson, Miss. and Amos Clodfelter of Gand Blanc, Mich.; three sisters, Ruth Hamlin of Dexter, Laura Nan Ross of Bloomfield and Mary Elizabeth Helsley of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Nancy Elizabeth Probst of St. Louis and James Allen Hampton of Bernie; and two great-grandchildren, Alexandra Hampton and Conner Tres Hampton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Wayne Clodfelter and Kelley Ward Clodfelter. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2003 in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Rev. Susan Marner-Sides of Rev. Bill Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Malden Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden. Memorials may be made to Bernie High School Scholarship Fund. PAID
