Andy Bess, son of the late John Bess and Ola Kelly Bess, was born on Oct. 11, 1921, at Bloomfield and died in the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center at Poplar Bluff on Saturday, May 10, 2003, at the age of 81. Mr. Bess was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Dexter Masonic Lodge #532, a former employee of Roberts Plumbing and Heating in Poplar Bluff, a veteran in the army of World War II, a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, and a resident of Dexter for many years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lee Kee on Oct. 13, 1942, at Bloomfield. Mrs. Bess preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2001. Survivors include one son, Ronald Bess of Bolivar; one daughter, Andrea Hitt of Enid, Okla.; three sisters, Pansy Barker of Dexter, Vern Tucker of Blacksburg, Va., and Louise Proffer of Panama City, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. Visitation was held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 13, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Kevin Chenowith officiating. Interment followed in the Bloomfield Cemetery at Bloomfield.
