Karen Ruth Smith, daughter of Harlan and Joyce Fletcher Gillett of Appleton, Wis., was born on March 26, 1956 at Aurora, Ill. and died in the Baptist Hospital at Memphis, Tenn. on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at the age of 47. Mrs. Smith was a part-time employee of Save-A-Lot Grocery Store in Dexter and a resident of Bloomfield. She was united in marriage to Daniel A. Smith on January 12, 1974 at Poplar Bluff. Mr. Smith survives of the home near Bloomfield. Besides her husband and parents, survivors include: three sons, Daniel Smith, Jr. of Fort Lewis, Wash., Shawn Byron Smith of Dexter and Kevin Wayne Smith of Bloomfield; one daughter, Jennifer Ann Craft of Dexter; three brothers, John Gillett of Aurora, Ill., Harlan Gillett, Jr. of Champaign, Ill. and Richard Gillett of Appleton, Wis.; three sisters, Kathy Hawks of Doniphan, Sherry Ely of Menasha, Wis. and Tammy Boucher of Black Creek, Wis.; and two grandchildren. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2003. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2003 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dennis Breland officiating. The body was then cremated.
