Earl Vernon Carroll

Earl Vernon Carroll, the son of the late Roy Jasper and Edna Lucinda Dickens Carroll, was born in Harviell on April 20, 1929, and died on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff at the age of 74. Mr. Carroll was a life-long resident of Southeast Missouri and had been a resident of Dexter for the past 14 years. He was a retired teacher for first through twelfth grades, a bus driver, and also a distributor of Watkins Products. He was a member of the Bible Way Fellowship Church in Dexter, Puxico V.F.W., Dexter Elks Lodge and Missouri Retired Teachers Association. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. On Dec. 30, 1950, he was married to Margaret A. Keller in Piggott, Ark. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Carroll of Dexter; one son and daughter-in-law, William Duane and Relda S. Carroll of Essex; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Elgy Lee Brown, Jr. of Sikeston; six grandchildren, Leonard, Clorinda, and Jeremy Carroll, Jason and Cody Pinkley and Amber Leeper; five great-grandchildren, Skie, Katie, J.T. the second, Paige Pinkley and Harlie Leeper; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth Ray and Donna Greeson of Overland; one sister and brother-in-law, Loretta Carolyn and Howard Hager of Harviell. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Earl Carroll on June 2, 1992; two brothers, Virgil Franklin Carroll and Roy Leonard Carroll. Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Karen Oldham officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff. PAID
