Billy Joe Stanfield of Dexter, formerly of Steele, the son of Lottys DePriest Stanfield and the late William (Bill) Stanfield, was born June 14, 1937, and died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 66.

He was united in marriage to Lois Teeter.

He served Steele as the chief of police for some 19 years and too served Hayti Police Department for four years, was a member of the Police Chief Association and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Althia Mae Plummer Wheeler.

Survivors include his mother, Lottys Stanfield of Marion, Ark.; two sons, Billy Joe Stanfield, Jr. of Steele and Ricky Joe Stanfield of Dexter; a daughter, Debbie Laster of Kennett; two sisters, Loretta Felts of Malden and Patsy Young of Marion, Ark.; and one grandson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with Rev. Mike Hargraves officiating.

Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.
