Ova J. Smith, daughter of the late Samuel Obediah Mowery and Amanda Jane Tucker Mowery, was born on March 3, 1914, in Clinton, Ark., and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girardeau on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at the age of 89.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Sikeston, a former seamstress, homemaker, foster parent, former resident of Sikeston and currently residing in Bloomfield.

She was united in marriage to Hermon Harvey Smith on Jan. 14, 1932, at Clinton, Ark. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Pam Westmoreland of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Randy Westmoreland of Morehouse, Maresa Green of Bloomfield, Tamela Burrow and Wesley Westmoreland both of Denton, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Cody Forrester of Clearwater, Floa., Sarah Westmoreland, Deneka Purnell and Bethany Westmoreland all of Morehouse; Kristin Lenn of Denton, Texas, Tracy Green Jr., Dustin Nall and Stephanie Green all of Bloomfield; and one great-great-grandchild, Gabriel Forrester of Nennely, Tenn.; also by one sister, Eileen Hampton of Bolivar, Mo.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Mowery and Coniver Mowery; and by two sisters, Opal Mowery and Edna Eades.

Visitation will be held this afternoon, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
