Launita Marie McNeal

Launita Marie McNeal, daughter of Mildred Arnold Mekan and the late Lawrence Mekan, was born on Sept. 3, 1934, in Stoddard County, and died at Norwood Nursing Center in Huntington, Ind., at the age of 69.

She was united in marriage to LeeRoy McNeal on Oct. 17, 1951, and he preceded his wife in death on March 3, 1995.

Survivors include her mother, Mildred Mekan of Bernie; two sons, Danny L. McNeal of Huntington, Ind., and Rickie McNeal of Fayetteville, N.C.; four daughters, Mrs. Debra Farr of Flushing, Mich., Mrs. Sharon Counts of Godfrey, Ind., Ms. Eva McNeal of Windsor, and Mrs. Diane Dennis of Dixon; five brothers, William Mekan of Cadillac, Mich., Gene Mekan of Paragould, Ark., Thomas Mekan of Temple City, Calif., David Mekan of Van Buren, and Ivan Mekan of Bernie; four sisters, Violetta Mastilovich of Afton, Alva J. Armes of Poplar Bluff, Carolyn Mekan of Temple City, Calif., and Francis Mekan of Fayetteville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her father and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Parks.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at the Powe Gospel Church in Powe.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at the Powe Gospel Church with Pastor Ivan Mekan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Clarkton.
